Excellent Speeches

7MC1 has been thinking about the type of animals they are like. I will share with you later some photos of the excellent masks that they have created.

Here are some of their speeches.

“Grrr. My name is Tyrannosaurus Rex, one of the fiercest dinosaurs that ever stalked the earth. I have big teeth as long as knives. I have the longest tail of all the dinosaurs. My neck is made up of 15 bones. See how tall it makes me! My legs are as thick as tree trunks to support my weight.”

“I am a monkey, because the rest of my family are monkeys and I’m cute, small and dark brown, and that is how monkeys look!”

“Hello. As you can see I am a giraffe. The reason I have chosen this animal is because of the personality and characteristics of this animal. One of the reasons is that I know that giraffes are really lazy and trust me, you don’t even know how lazy I am! Another reason is because giraffes are noisy and you won’t even be able to guess how noisy I am, and my other friends. My dad said that giraffes are elegant and he said that I’m just like a giraffe because he said that I am elegant too, and that is the end of my speech.”

“The reason why my mask is a tiger is because I can be vicious when I get angry. I am born in the year of the tiger in the Chinese New Year. I also like the cat family. My favourite colour is black and their markings are black and orange.”

“The rabbit is a mammal which feeds on lettuce, beans or roots. The rabbit lives in dry areas where it builds its burrows. Maybe of different races and also may be abnormal colours. The rabbits are domestic or wild.”

“I love to be a cat because I can see in the dark, I can be cheeky and all the time have it my way, I can eat when I want and wait when I want, noone tells me what to do. I’m myself’s boss. I can play with things, when it’s hot I can be lazy and do nothing but eat and drink. I like to drink milk. I like to drink water too, and I like to stretch a lot. When it’s hot I try to stay somewhere cold, when it’s cold I want to stay where it’s hot, and only come out when someone calls me.”

Eightfold Path Homework

Many apologies for not posting your homework regularly this past term! However, I did say I would post a link for the homework that is due this Tuesday 2 June 2009.

You learnt about the Buddhism Eightfold Path to reach Nirvana.

Your homework is to make your own eight step path to a goal or target of your choice.

This should be for a display, which might be in the shape of an eight-spoked wheel, a lotus flower, or something else. Your goal should be clear (eg happiness, heaven or the ideal job) and you should explain why you have chosen it (eg This target is important to me because …). Each of the eight steps should be linked to achieving your goal.

The first step is …

This will help me to reach __________ because ….

I look forward to seeing your excellent displays!

Dirty Old Towns

You learnt about some of the smelly and unhygienic Medieval towns.

Homework for Tuesday 3 March:

Imagine you have moved from a Medieval village to a town. Write a postcard home describing what it is like living there. You might also want to add some suggestions for how you would improve the town!

Remember to include a picture on the front of your postcard!

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Dear 7KL2,

You have been reading The Boy in the Stripe Pyjamas by John Boyle over the past half term. I have been delighted with the work that you have produced. Your written work has been of a high standard, you have discussed the book thoughtfully in class, and your short dramas and freeze frames were very poignant.

Your homework over this half term holiday is substantial, and I know some of you seemed a bit overwhelmed by it. However, I hope that you will enjoy the challenge and rise to it, as you most definitely did with your excellent China presentations. In this post I am going to link to some sites that I hope will inspire you and help you with your work.

Everyone was given the help sheet, which includes the four topic sentences that you can use to begin each of the four chapters that you are going to write. There are also different types of connectives that you should try to use to enhance your writing. I am sure that most of you will be able to achieve Level 5s in this work.

From memory, the four topic sentences are:
* My life changed.
* I hate my life at Auschwitz.
* I made a new friend.
* Bruno came to help me find my Papa.

The task is to retell the story of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas from Shmuel’s perspective (point of view). Remember to use all your senses: What can he see? What can he hear? What can he smell? What can he taste? What can he feel – both physically and emotionally?

Here are some links that might help you:

Buy your own copy at Amazon.

7KL2 – Week 4

Your homework is due on Tuesday 7 October.

Research the life of Confucius. Find some of his sayings! If you can, also write down what you think those sayings mean.

Click on the links before for extra help – and leave a comment to let me know if you have found them useful! And remember … a good student uses the resources but does not simply copy them. Instead, select the material that you think is appropriate, and explain what you think it means.
